Classic Anthology Review: John Mellencamp | Words & Music

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

There have been other John Mellencamp compilations — but none as extensive and inclusive as this two-disc set.

Songs: 37.

Actual Hits: Classic-rock radio staples like Pink House, Paper in Fire, Authority Song, R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A., Cherry Bomb, Pop Singer, Jack & Diane, I Need a Lover and plenty more.

Missing In Action: The only omission I could spot was Play Guitar.

Extras! Extras! Two rootsy new tracks — and a DVD of videos that comes stuck to the set and is impossible to remove without destroying the packaging.
