Classic Christmas Album Review: Various Artists | Maybe This Christmas Tree

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Meet Santa’s little hipsters. Uber-cool customers like The Raveonettes, Death Cab for Cutie and Pilate band together to raise funds to buy toys for needy kids.

CHESTNUTS ROASTED: Polyphonic Spree give John Lennon’s Happy Xmas (War is Over) the full-choir treatment; Death Cab take Phil Spector’s Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) for a spin; Lisa Loeb rings those Jingle Bells.

YULE LOVE: Pedro the Lion’s dulcet I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.

YULE WISH: Pilate hadn’t tried to cover The Pogues’ inimitable Fairytale of New York.
