Classic Album Review: Mick Jagger & Dave Stewart | Alfie Soundtrack

The Stones frontman & the Eurythmics mastermind join forces for a soundtrack.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Mick Jagger could easily have been the model for the original Alfie — if not the star of the show.

But sadly, filmmakers back in 1966 weren’t savvy enough to get the Glimmer Twin involved in the original film. The folks behind the new Jude Law remake obviously had better taste. They hired Sir Mick and Eurythmics mastermind Dave Stewart to put together this 15-track set of guitar-pop and hip-hop soul. Jagger takes the mic on the bulk of these likeable, lightweight cuts, but wisely recruits teen phenom Joss Stone to revamp the old Cher title cut. Granted, it’s a long way from a new Rolling Stones album. But it’s nice to see that one of the lads is still working.
