This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
“It’s all the same,” complains Fu Manchu’s Scott Hill. “Things never seem to change.”
Funny, I was thinking the same thing while listening to these stoner-rock mainstays’ seventh studio set Start The Machine. The Godzilla-sized guitar riffs and fuzzed-out power chords, the big-ass drumbeats and thundering basslines, Hill’s bong-hit vocals and road-dog lyrics; it’s all fairly standard Fu fare. Which is not to say it’s bad — just that you won’t hear anything on these 12 songs you haven’t heard before. Maybe they should have called it Restart The Machine.
