Classic Album Review: The Blithe Sons | Arm Of The Starfish

The ambient San Francisco duo play in the water on this atmospheric release.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

With its gentle ebb and flow, ambient music often invokes aquatic imagery.

San Francisco duo The Blithe Sons take it one step further, incorporating waves, wind and seabirds in with the guitars, dulcimers and banjos of their droning, atmospheric folkedelia. Sure, it’s a long way from familiar ground, but don’t be scared: The water’s fine.
