Nathan Jacques Is Guided By His Sanctuary Light

The singing cowboy returns with a preview of Dark Wanderer And The Bounty Heart.

Nathan Jacques battles the darkness with the help of his Sanctuary Light in his romantic and rollicking new roots-rock single and video — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

Reminiscent of Nick Lowe, the California cowboy’s twangy offering — which sets the stage for his ambitious new song-cycle and full-length film Dark Wanderer And The Bounty Heart — finds the western troubadour holding tight to the spark of love that keeps us all going through troubled times. Meanwhile, the old-timey cinematic video for the song doubles as a trailer for Jacques’ “lost singing cowboy movie,” introducing key characters from the narrative, including The Revenant Man, The King Underground and The Terrifying Shapeshifter!

“When all hope seems to be but a flickering light, we turn to those we love for guidance and support,” Jacques explains. “This song is about embracing that love and letting it light the way in a place of absolute darkness. These themes are portrayed quite literally in the context of this story as Dark Wanderer embarks on his quest through the pitch-black desert underworld.”

Due later this year, Dark Wanderer And The Bounty Heart is a vintage-style singing-cowboy film that features Jacques in the title role — and comes accompanied by a 20-track song-cycle that also serves as the sequel to his debut album Loud Mind. In the epic narrative, Jacques plays a recording artist and movie star akin to the likes of Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, but without the critical acclaim. Known for being campy and convoluted, he is not very respected for his peculiar films, which feature over-the-top acting and strangely dark themes.

Principal recording of Dark Wanderer And The Bounty Heart was done at the legendary East West Studios in Hollywood with producer / engineer Ed Donnelly (Willie Nelson, Trent Summar) at the helm. The album was mixed by Brandon Towles (Dierks Bentley, Kenny Chesney) and Jordan Koop (Orville Peck) and mastered by Pete Lyman (Brandi Carlisle, Sturgill Simpson) and Nick Townsend (Jesse Daniels). The Sanctuary Light video was directed and edited by Christopher Macken and features a cameo appearance by Zachary Holmes of Jackass.
