Classic Album Review: Eyedea And Abilities | E&A

The Minnesota hip-hop duo live up to both halves of their name on their third album.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

The first one is a rapper. The other is a turntablist. Together, Minnesota hip-hop duo Eyedea And Abilities are more than the sum of their parts.

And their third album E&A is an ear-catching confluence of art, intelligence and entertainment reminiscent of Canada’s own Peanuts And Corn crew. Eyedea brings a smooth flow, earthy lyrics with common-sense messages and enough showmanship to craft a chorus; Abilities supplies the hypnotic grooves, the nimble-fingered scratching and smartly integrated samples. One listen is all it takes to know that Eyeda And Abilities have plenty of both to spare.
