Now Hear This: Chris Pellnat | Cairn

The Warp/Weft guitarist draws you in with this soothing, balanced new solo album.

Chris Pellnat carefully constructs an elegant musical Cairn on his new solo album — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

The American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist’s latest work is as natural, unassuming and gracefully balanced as the rock sculptures that lend the album its name. Effortlessly combining folk, rock, pop and even electronic elements, Pellnat crafts an inviting, soothing and unpredictable approach that draws you in and carries you along.

A veteran musician, Pellnat’s songcraft rests on strong melody and lyrics that, even when dealing with serious topics, sometimes have an element of playful cleverness. Some of his songs are expansive and elating, dealing with the big questions of life, love, spirituality and fate. Others come off as lighthearted novelty songs. But whether silly or sublime, a common thread runs through all of his work: He seeks to create something honest and true.

Hailing from Hudson, New York, Pellnat fashions his melodic, memorable songs using unusual instrumentation, including vibraphone, clarinet and dulcimer in addition to the expected guitar, bass, drums and synthesizers. In addition to the multi-talented Pellnat, Cairn features cameos by Bobby Sabella, who played drums on Child’s Play and Wandering Squandering, and Pete Toigo (NRBQ, Natalie Merchant), who contributes upright bass on Ship On The Horizon and The Final Wager.

In addition to his solo work, Pellnat plays guitar in the Poughkeepsie rock band, The Warp/The Weft. He is also half of the duo Teeniest. Listen to Cairn below, watch Chris Pellnat‘s videos above, and follow him on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
