Classic Album Review: Various Artists | Contaminated VI

Relapse presents more merciless punishment from a gauntlet of bruisers & brawlers.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Let’s face it: If there’s one genre in which more is almost always better, it’s metal. And you can’t get much more bang for your buck than you get on Contaminated VI, the latest budget-priced compilation from fearless extreme-music label Relapse.

This two-disc collection delivers 39 rounds of merciless punishment from a veritable gauntlet of bruisers and brawlers — the thundering dino-might of Mastadon, the crypt-keeper invocations of Nile, the Sabbathical paranoia of Bongzilla, the helter-skelter mayhem of Pig Destroyer, the southern ’70s riff-rock of Pentagram and even the bathtub-crank speed-punk of the awesome Zeke. To ask for more would be rude — and masochistic.
