Classic Album Review: New Bomb Turks | Switchblade Tongues, Butterknife Brains

The Ohio garage-punks make it easy on you by compiling a slew of swell rarities.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Tracking down albums by New Bomb Turks is hard enough — never mind trying to get your mitts on all their singles and EPs and compilation tracks and whatnot.

Thankfully, that’s where their latest release Switchblade Tongues, Butterknife Brains comes in. This compilation collects 16 odds ’n’ sods from these hard-hitting Columbus garage-punks, including plenty of covers (Joy Division’s Drawback, Aerosmith’s Chip Away The Stone, Devil DogsRadiobeat and Death of Mighty Joe), some European cuts and B-sides, and even a whole whack of previously unreleased recordings — nearly all of which deliver the same raw-boned riff-rawk and fuzz-fueled frenzy you’ve come to expect from the Turks. Though you might not have expected to get your paws on it this easily.
