Two more assembly-line CDs from a pair of here-today, gone-later-today pop idols.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Just what the world needs: Two more instantly forgettable assembly-line CDs from this season’s batch of here-today, gone-later-today pop “idols.”

Not that the inevitable obsolescence of American Idol winner Ruben Studdard and his CanCon counterpart Ryan Malcolm (or is that Malcolm Ryan?) matters to the short-attention-span hordes who comprise their fan bases. Nor, one suspects, would said hordes be deterred by having me tell them that Malcolm’s debut disc is basically a sub-par set of crappy pop-rock in the vein of Moist, while Ruben’s platter is a remarkably bland collection of hackneyed hip-hop soul balladry. No, ultimately none of it makes any difference. The sad truth is that if you’re 13, you probably think this is good music because it’s on the radio. If you’re 30, you presumably know better. If not, heaven help you.
