Classic Album Review: New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble | Get This!

This sextet of ska stars make music that rude boys and hep cats can both dig.

This came out in 1998 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Full points for accuracy with that band name.

This sextet of ska stars from outfits like The Toasters, Scofflaws and Skatalites make music both rude boys and hep cats can dig on this 50-minute outing. Along with tossing boppy horn lines and jazzy solos into blue beat numbers, they pull off a torchy ballad — and even skank up Duke Ellington’s Mood Indigo. If you did your ska cool and your jazz jumping, well, then the title says it all.
