Classic DVD Review: Siouxsie And The Banshees | The Seven Year Itch

The reuinited goth-punks pick up where they left off on this reunion outing.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

I could be wrong about this — but when Siouxsie And The Banshees broke up in the mid-’90s, didn’t they claim it was partly a reaction to all the nostalgia surrounding the reunion of The Sex Pistols?

Given that, this live CD from a reunited Banshees seems at least a tad hypocritical. Ethical considerations aside, however, there’s no quibbling with the quality of the performance. Recorded a year ago in England and featuring singer Siouxsie, drummer Budgie and bassist Steve Severin (with former Psychedelic Furs axeman Knox Chandler in the revolving-door guitarist position), this set finds the band picking up where they left off, powering through a set list that includes both hits (Spellbound, Peek-A-Boo) and album cuts from their early days (Pure, Metal Postcard). As an encore bonus, they turn in an intriguing revamp of George Harrison’s Blue Jay Way. For those too punk to shell out for DVD players, The Seven Year Itch is also available as on CD.
