Classic Album Review: Beady Belle | Cewbeagappic

The Norwegian downtempo duo deliver noirish jazzbo grooves and soothing melody.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

WHO THEY ARE: It may sound like the name of an old rock groupie, but in reality, Beady Belle are a downtempo Norwegian outfit formed and fronted by vocalist Beate S. Lech and standup bassist Marius Reksjø.

WHAT THIS IS: The title of their debut album Cewbeagappic is, surprisingly, not a Norwegian term. Actually its an anagram of opposing terms — Complex, Easy, White, Black, Electronic, Acoustic, Groovy, Ambient, Programmed, Played, Improvised and Composed — that assiduously and succinctly sum up this dozen-track serving of noirish jazzbo grooves and soothing melody.
