Jasmine Is | Passion: Exclusive Single Premiere

The enigmatic singer-songwriter makes a plea for empathy in their latest release.

Jasmine Is shares their Passion for compassion in their uplifting, beautifully soulful new retro-pop single — premiering exclusively on Tinnitist.

The third single from the British musician’ brand-new debut album Hear, this sparkling, ’80s-influenced pop gem implores us to live our lives with more empathy and understanding. “Compassion is something that is truly lacking in the world right now,” says Jasmine Is. “I wanted to write a song that conveyed this message but didn’t feel like a downer. I needed it to feel hopeful.”

Produced by Philip Larsen (Kylie Minogue, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry), Passion and Hear will be available May 19 on Spotify, Apple Music / iTunes and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide.

Jasmine and Philip had a somewhat unique working relationship when recording her new album Hear. An intensely private person who avoids even phone and video calls, Jasmine’s preference was to communicate only via messaging and the odd voice note while sending files backwards and forwards for the first year.

“The limitations caused by the pandemic and having to work remotely actually suited me perfectly,” Jasmine says. “After about a year working together, messaging only, I’d written a song that Philip composed a beautiful piano piece for, but when I heard it, it immediately sparked a completely different melody with a very different subject. As he was going to have to create something else, I decided it would be better to discuss things over the phone. That was the first time we spoke! And as for the first Zoom call, that took another six months! Thankfully, we’ve proved that working remotely and invisibly for the most part, doesn’t have to be detrimental to collaborating and creating music. But who knows, it’s entirely possible Philip and I may meet up one of these days … under a Vulcan! But that’s another story.”

Adds Philip: “We were very much a lockdown production. We are on different continents as it is, so probably wouldn’t have worked in person in any case. The fun part was that we communicated mostly via WhatsApp, exchanging short fire messages with vocal ideas, inspirations and music demos. Almost all our communication was musical by nature and that meant for a flurry of ideas on each song. And in the early stages when we were just finding our feet, we could try our own ideas out in full, before sharing them. This is a great way to do things, as there is no fear of embarrassment when an early idea needs a bit of development before being shared with your co-writer. I don’t think we would be able to work in the same room now as it would upset the flow and creativity!”
