Classic DVD Review: Dead Kennedys | The Early Years Live

LIke the band, this 30-minute compilation packs plenty of fun into its brief lifespan.

This came out in 2002 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Like their career, this DVD from the seminal San Francisco punk outfit Dead Kennedys is frustratingly short.

But once again, like the band, it packs plenty of fun into its lifespan. The Early Years Live is a fast-moving 30-minute compilation of performance clips from 1978 to 1981, when the Jello Biafra-led foursome were in their prime. California Uber Alles, Kill The Poor, Drug Me, Let’s Lynch The Landlord, Bleed For Me and their signature song Holiday In Cambodia — the one that reunited them in court a few years back — are the soundtrack to any old punk’s trip down Memory Lane.
