Albums Of The Week: Kojokona | When in Khartoum

The instrumental Oslo octet's horn-driven fusion of groovy Afrobeat, blaxploitation funk, jazz & rock might not be groundbreaking, but it still goes down pretty smooth.

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “The eight-piece band Kojokona were a band from Oslo, Norway, established during the summer of 2019. They were active until August 2021.

With members from Norway, Denmark, Chile and Sudan, they were well represented on the world map. Genre-wise, the band played a unique mix of rock, funk, jazz and Afrobeat. They took beats from all the corners of the world, and made them their own. The name Kojokona means “reverent greetings” in a tribal language from the Nuba Mountains in Sudan.”
