Albums Of The Week: Le Jonathan Reilly | 7″, Demos & Other Rarities

Enjoy 18 nuggets of brash basement-band brilliance from some Spanish post-punks.

I hadn’t heard of these Spanish post-punk garage-rockers until this compilation popped up on my radar a couple of weeks back.  Now I want to hear more — especially if the rest of their shit is as aggressively scrappy and energetically hot-wired as these 18 punchy little nuggets of brash basement-band brilliance.

Everything here was apparently recorded in Valencia between 2004-2008, but could just as easily have been cut in London in 1975 or in Australia last Thursday. Comparing them to many other mythical lineups of the past would be easy, but their personal mark is too indelible and unique not to talk about them as an accurate starting point of many things that are happening now, instead of a continuation of something. This was… Or better, this is Le Jonathan Reilly, and I can assure you it’s amazing!”
