Rusty Robot cracks open his chest to share a heartfelt tale of alienation and isolation in his spaced-out new single and video You Are A Ghost — premiering exclusively on Tinnitist.
The latest release from the alter-ego of award-winning Winnipeg singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and Klingon enthusiast Rusty Matyas, the shape-shifting psychedelic rocker (which officially lands tomorrow) is firmly grounded in the black-and-white tones of harsh reality.
“The song is about a relationship, wherein you communicate more love and respect than you receive in return,” says Matyas, formerly a member of Canadian rockers The Waking Eyes. “You are a Ghost was originally written and recorded in the basement of a dilapidated house, in the suburbs of Toronto, in 2008. A demo for The Waking Eyes, who were living in said house. I re-recorded this song shortly after receiving treatment and detox for alcoholism in 2018.”
For its triumphant return 13 years later, the song arrives accompanied by a mind-bending, futuristic video was shot in Assiniboine Forest Park and at Activate Games in Winnipeg. Direction, filming, special effects and editing were all done by Jeremy Williamez. In addition to The Waking Eyes, Matyas has written for and performed with Imaginary Cities, The Weakerthans, The Sheepdogs and many more. He recently re-recorded Queen’s legendary anthem Bohemian Rhapsody in Klingon to worldwide acclaim.
