Today in Reunions Everybody Asked For That Never Should Have Happened Anyway: Abba just announced the release of Voyage, their first album in 40 years. Mamma mia, indeed.
And that’s not all: Along with the new album announcement, they dropped a pair of singles — I Still Have Faith In You and Don’t Shut Me Down, both of which are pretty tepid IMHO, but you can judge for yourself below — and revealed they’re going to perform digitally, using youthful CGI versions of themselves instead of their actual aging meatsacks. That’s a lot to unpack — but Eric Alper (who actually saw Abba live in concert!) and I will give it our best shot in today’s episode of Sonic Reducers. Come along as we discuss Voyage weigh in on the news singles, try to figure out why they’re even bothering to come back after all this time, and relive Eric’s youthful Abba memories. Sonic Reducers: One topic. Two music nerds. Five minutes. Everything you need to know.
