Classic Album Review: Huey Lewis & the News | Plan B

The San Francisco popsters offer the same old same on their first LP in a decade.

This came out in 2001 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

T his is the first album of new material in a decade from San Francisco popsters Huey Lewis & the News, but I bet you could slap it on any classic-rock station and nobody would think twice.

Like every other Huey Lewis album, Plan B is chock full of Huey’s wholesome, homegrown Motown Muzak, with plenty of bouncy beats, lotsa lightly funky horn-driven R&B and a spoonful of Lewis’s syrupy, grinning soul-man posturing. If you’re looking for an album for your mom’s birthday, stop right here. But if this is supposed to be the heart of rock ’n’ roll, somebody better break out the paddles, stat.
