The Rolling Stones just announced that their next archival box set will be a 40th anniversary edition of their 1981 masterpiece Tattoo You, arriving Oct. 22.
Like others in the series, it will include the remastered original album, a live concert from the era, and a disc of previously unreleased outtakes and leftovers — which is pretty ironic, given that the whole album was famously assembled from outtakes and leftovers. It just goes to show: Artists are seldom the best judges of their own work. That’s just one of the many points Eric Alper and I discuss in today’s instalment of Sonic Reducers. Listen in as we talk about the Tattoo You box, reminisce about the Stones in the ’80s and ponder which vintage album they should tackle next. Sonic Reducers. One topic. Two music nerds. Five minutes. Everything you need to know.
