Classic Album Review: Frenzal Rhomb | Shut Your Mouth

The Aussie outfit can satisfy punks, pop fans and even crusty old codgers like me.

This came out in 2001 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

I have no idea how big Australian popcore goofballs Frenzal Rhomb are Down Under. But I see no reason why they shouldn’t be huge here.

Their hypercharged style has enough momentum, snot and grit to satisfy the punks, enough melody and sugar-buzz to go over with the pop crowd, and enough sardonic sophomorism (sample song titles: Everything’s F****d, I Love F*****g Up and Sodom the Clown) to make the Blink-182 fans shoot their chocolate milk out of their noses. And, if truth be told, their turbo-speed hijinx and sky-high harmonies sound enough like The Dickies to appeal even to crusty old codgers like me. Looks like all roads really do lead to Rhomb.
