Today in things we never expected to happen and really didn’t ask for anyways: The (mostly) reunited Guns N’ Roses have released the single Absurd, the band’s first new tune in 13 years and their first recording with Slash and Duff in decades.
OK, OK, it’s not totally new: It’s a reworking of the Chinese Democracy leftover Silkworms, augmented with plenty of solos from Slash. Even so, from a band that releases new music once in a generation or so, it’s a pretty big deal. Or at least big enough for Eric Alper and I to chin-wag about in today’s episode of Sonic Reducers. Join us as we dissect Absurd, explain why legendary bands feel the need to release new music even when most people really don’t give a damn, and wonder whether GN’R would even be capable of making an album in less than a decade. Sonic Reducers. One topic. Two music nerds. Five minutes. Everything you need to know.
