Sonic Reducers | The Solo No-Go

Acts whose members have never gone solo? We have something to say about that.

Can you think of a big-name, long-running band whose members have never done full-on solo albums or side projects? It’s what we’re talking about in today’s episode of Sonic Reducers.

This all started because U2 bassist Adam Clayton has reportedly said that the rest of the band would have no problem if Bono ever wanted to go off and do a solo album. First off, I had to laugh — it almost sounds like they’re as fed up with him as the rest of the world. But then, it got me thinking: U2 are pretty much the only gigantic, veteran act whose members have never had solo albums or major side projects (one-off collaborations and guest spots don’t count). The only other ones I can think of are Beastie Boys and Sparks. My Sonic Reducers cohort Eric Alper can’t think of any to add to that list. How about you? If you have some names that belong on this list, you can email me HERE or get at me via social media. Sonic Reducers: One topic. Two music nerds. Everything you need to know.
