The Yule Brothers bring burning passion and white-hot rage to their defiant new single I Am On Fire — premiering exclusively on Tinnitist.
A powerfully invigorating, personally revealing anthem of pride, fortitude, self-reliance and perseverance, the B.C. siblings’ ambitious track packs a musical punch to match its stirring emotional and lyrical wallop, with rolling-thunder drums and ringing acoustic guitar joining forces in a hard-driving shuffle that seamlessly bonds folk, indie-rock, pop and punk.
Of course, there is no bond stronger than family. And no feeling better than when a song hits just right. The Yule Brothers are a marriage of those simple concepts. Unbreakable and defiantly alternative, their style and sound are genuine and bold. Born in the logging town of Prince George, Darby and Erin Yule started their journey seven years ago as the pop-punk band The Statistics. They released their first EP Haunts to a sold-out crowd in a church basement with a blown-out PA, before hitting the hard road in Western Canada, releasing a pair of singles along the way.
The Yule Brothers went back into the studio to record their 2019 album The Robson Street Hymns. Produced by Elisa Pangsaeng and themselves, the album featured an all-star lineup of members from Said the Whale, Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Wide Mouth Mason, along with Colin James. Darby often refers to the single True North as “the first honest-to-God Yule Brothers song.” Other singles from The Robson Street Hymns, Sparks in the Night and Maryanne, earned them national radio play and features in over 75 media outlets.
In 2020, they had to cancel a cross-Canada tour as well as their first European dates due to Covid-19. Darby and Erin decided to keep moving forward. Officially changing their name to The Yule Brothers, they teamed up with Creative BC for a virtual tour of all of their favourite venues. In the summer, they returned to the studio with their friend Karl Dicare to do what they do best: Record real and honest music. But this time with a twist: Darby and Erin were only going to work with their friends. No big names, no flashy studio musicians, just people they loved being around. These new songs were made completely from the heart, with a team that has as much passion as Darby and Erin.
