Late-Night TV Music (Quick Spin Edition) | March 11, 2021

Lake Street Dive, Adrianne Lenker, Adam Duritz & more ways to start your day.

Another Friday, another mountain of music to climb. But first, let’s take a quick spin through Thursday’s Late-Night TV Music offerings. It won’t take long, I promise.

The evening starts with Minneapolis jazz-popsters Lake Street Dive, playing their typically nimble and nifty new single Hypotheticals on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Then it moves into moodier terrain, with solo performances from singer-songwriters Adrianne Lenker and Adam Duritz. Yes, THAT Adam Duritz; The Counting Crows frontman came out of hiding to publicize the 25th anniversary of his band’s Recovering The Satellites album (and mark the first anniversary of the pandemic) by playing the timely number A Long December on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Meanwhile, Big Thief guitarist Lenker gave her Grammy-nominated band the night off and unplugged her guitar to play Dragon Eyes on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. And speaking of this weekend’s Grammys, The Late Late Show With James Corden welcomed Best R&B Song nominees Tiana Major9, who delivered her number Same Space from some sort of curtained-off corner of the world. And now, back to your Friday. See you on the other side of the mountain.
