Miss Emily is firing on all cylinders — with a little help from some high-powered friends — on a powerhouse live version of her song The Sellout, showcasing today on Tinnitist.
It’s not a one-off; the song is a preview of Emily Fennell’s imminent release Live at The Isabel — her debut concert recording that arrives this Friday, Oct. 30. An enthralling compilation of songs, stories, and captivating moments, the live LP is a sonic snapshot spanning two-plus years of record-setting sold-out performances by the award-winning Kingston artist at Ontario’s Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts.
The Sellout kicks open the door thanks to Miss Emily’s breathtaking signature vocals and some stellar accompaniment from two familiar faces — Tragically Hip guitarist Rob Baker and bassist Gord Sinclair — in addition to her regular touring band. “I’ve worked with many of these musicians for more than a decade and, when I’m on stage with them, it’s like easing back into your favourite armchair. Except, that armchair is an incredible group of talented musicians.”
They’re in good company: Miss Emily has won 2019’s Maple Blues Female Artist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, and the Sapphire Video Award. A frequent favourite on festival and venue stages nationwide, her award-winning career includes the 2014 album Rise and 2017’s In Between.
The latter led to back-to-back sellout shows at the Isabel — and prompted a second set of sold-out shows at the same venue, a benchmark that has yet to be equaled. “They were thrilling to perform and, when I reviewed the recordings from each show recently, I realized they had the makings of a live album that could help those nights live on forever.”
