Bright Eyes, Old 97’s and Jaga Jazzist Top Today’s Album Announcements

We all have bands we like. These three are definitely some of mine.

Sometimes good things really do come in threes. Case in point: I’ve liked Bright Eyes, The Old 97’s and Jaga Jazzist for a lot of years now. So it was a treat to find out today that they all have new albums on the horizon. The former — led as always by Omaha singer-songwriter Conor Oberst — deliver their darkly titled Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was on Aug. 21. Coincidentally, that’s the same day Rhett Miller and his Old 97’s will release their album Twelfth — and before you ask, yes, it’s their dozenth studio release (aside from some EPs and holilday fare). And finally, Norwegian jazz-rock oddballs of Jaga Jazzist — I was lucky enough to see them live in Oslo many years ago — will return with their latest disc Pyramid on Aug. 7. If none of those butter your biscuits, well, maybe some of the other discs announced in the past day or two will. Scroll down to see the latest additions and hit the Upcoming Releases page for the whole roster of goodies.
