Everything old really is new again. At least on late-night TV. Look no further than Tuesday’s roster of performers and songs. First and foremost, you had former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne leading a marching band / conga line version of Road to Nowhere — from his Broadway musical American Utopia — on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Then, over on Jimmy Kimmel Live, DJ Shadow and the legendary De La Soul teamed up to deliver the old-sounding new cut Rocket Fuel, from Shadow’s excellent just-released album Our Pathetic Age. Finally, The Late Late Show with James Corden closed the night with the mandatory piano ballad — in the form of American Idol alum Adam Lambert’s tune Closer to You. Not bad for a bunch of old guys.
