Late-Night TV Music (Ladies Night Edition) | April 8, 2019

Ellie Goulding, Marina and Ally Brooke take centre stage on the chat shows.

Do they still have ladies nights at bars? I don’t know. But it seems they still have it now and again on late-night TV, based on Monday’s musical lineup. The female-centric evening started with Ellie Goulding, who morphed from black-and-white to full colour while performing her lush, string-sweetened ballad Flux on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Then came Welsh popster Marina (without her non-existent Diamonds) and her Latin-flavoured hip-swiveller Orange Trees on Late Night With Seth Meyers. Also on the roster: Ally Brooke and her slinky Low Key (which included an assist from Tyga) on The Late Late Show With James Corden. Meanwhile, on the other side of the gender coin, you had Juice WRLD, who brought along his red plastic murse (and was nearly upstaged by a dancer in a phone booth) for Hear Me Calling on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. For their part, Last Call With Carson Daly featured soul throwbacks Durand Jones & The Indications, serving up Sea Gets Hotter and Don’t You Know from their acclaimed American Love Call album. And finally, just to balance out the boy-girl numbers, here’s Hozier’s rendition of Almost (Sweet Music) from today’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Enjoy. Come back tomorrow: It’s Margarita Night! (Note: It is not really Margarita Night!)
