“Will you love me like this?” T. Nile asks on the lyric video for her new single Note To Self — premiering exclusively on Tinnitist!
The answer to her question, of course, is an emphatic yes as the B.C. singer-songwriter unveils the seductive new sound of her forthcoming fourth album.
Beachfires, T. Nile’s first release since 2014’s Tingle & Spark, blends echoes of a traditional folk upbringing with vintage and modern electronics, creating a sound at the leading edge of the electro-folk movement.
Her first collaboration with Vancouver’s Brent Sadowick, a popular YouTuber and electronic music producer known by his surname only, Note to Self was written during one of the pair’s many jam sessions in her late father’s bedroom on Galiano Island.
Aware of Tamara’ s long-time love of Ennio Morricone’s western music and guitar magic of Austin resident and former Winnipegger Dave Quanbury, Sadowick created a lush sonic backdrop for her improvised words and melody. She drew from her writings while going through the ache of watching her father die.
In the lyrics, she asks “Will you love me like this?” reflecting on life’s fragility, and how sometimes in your most vulnerable moments, the love that’s most uncertain is the love you give yourself.
Brent’s presence in her life helped her focus on something other than the sadness she had sunken into since her father’s passing. The creativity between them was a life raft for her and the musical foundations of Beachfires.
