Odario Mellows Out With Sunset Flicks

The rapper's serenly soothing new single is a prelude to his upcoming EP The Balm.

Odario has the night in his sights on his laid-back new single and video Sunset Flicks — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

A preview of the Winnipeg-born, Toronto-based musician’s upcoming EP The Balm, the Alister Johnson-produced Sunset Flicks pays homage to the beauty of golden hour — that time just after sunrise or just before sunset. Says Odario: “Sunset Flicks embraces escapism after long dark winter episodes… rollin’ through town with a loved one and getting reacquainted with your city.”

Odario is a staple in Canada’s hip-hop and R&B scene, collaborating with the likes of Cadence Weapon and Haviah Mighty, Posdnuos of De La Soul, Shad, The Halluci Nation, Mad Professor and Saukrates.

Sunset Flicks features collaborations with prominent Toronto musicians like guitar master Adrian X, well known for his work with The Weeknd and Drake. On this track, he contributes bluesy tones to Sunset Flick’s slower bounce. Accompanying Odario on vocals is Toronto artist Lala Noel, known for her work with Canadian rockstars July Talk, rising star Aysanabee and Queer Songbook Orchestra. Noel contributes the dreamiest tone, painting the perfect picture of a summer evening.

Odario began his career as a part of the hip-hop band Grand Analog in 2007. True to his Guyanese heritage, he wears many hats, serving as the host of the popular nightly radio program Afterdark. As a solo artist, he released the extended play Good Morning Hunter in 2020, produced by film composer Todor Kobakov.
