Gabriella Zauna comes face-to-face with romantic cataclysm in her new dark-pop single Apocalyptic Love — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
The L.A. singer-songwriter’s latest self-produced release tackled a partner’s loss of self because of their own trials and tribulations, muddling the state of the connections once had with that person. Zauna dives into the perplexing nature of these feelings through a hypnotically entrancing sonic landscape and personal lyrics with a stirring edge.
Zauna’s track immerses listeners into a mentally and emotionally tolling partnership that only seems to intensify with the changing nature of your partner, making them unrecognizable. The floaty, dreamlike tone of Zauna’s voice mixed with the progression of the hallucinatory instrumentals perfectly outlines the constant battle between staying or leaving a connection that once was good, but now is only painfully draining. Her raw lyricism, ethereal soundscape, and enchanting tone resonate with listeners.
“When the person you are in a relationship with goes through their own current struggles, they can lose sight of the qualities that make them who they are,” she says. “Hence, the qualities one falls in love with. This can be especially difficult when the person you love becomes unrecognizable and changes in ways not for the better, making the partnership hard to see clearly and even harder to walk away from.”
Losing a sense of self becomes a consequence when staying in a romantic entanglement that seems to feel disastrous at times. “Parts of the relationship start to feel blurry, and you both lose sight of what’s really important, which is your love for one another. Your partner’s struggles start to envelop you, so much so that it eats away at not only the relationship but yourself.”
Zauna, originally from Los Angeles, grew up in a musical household with her father being involved in a punk band. Seen to draw beauty from darkness, she found a passion for writing music at seven years old and began releasing it at 15, utilizing it as a storytelling outlet for her life experiences and adversities. Creating narratives that not only engage the mind but stir the soul, Zauna has drawn inspiration from artists such as Imogen Heap, Lana Del Rey, Raye, John Summit and Fred Again. She pours her heart into her “one woman band,” weaving her own sonic tapestry by creating tunes that are authentic to herself and resonates with listeners.
