Two women, one guitar and a set of drums are all it takes to rock the garage. Especially when one of those women is former Trailer Bride frontwoman Melissa Swingle.
Though you might not recognize the formerly dour alt-country diva from her raucous new duo The Moaners and their energetic debut full-length Dark Snack. Pulling bloozy fuzztone licks from her cheap guitar and yowling boozy lyrics about hard times, paradise lost and terrier-sized men, Swingle makes like a southern PJ Harvey while a two-fisted, crash ’n’ bash drummer drives the backbeat down the backroad to the juke joint. If less is more, The Moaners are the most.
