This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
STYLE: Hard-hitting hardcore.
SOUNDS LIKE: What could be the best local punk album of the year — and yeah, I know it’s only February.
POINTED COMMENTS: American music mag Alternative Press just picked Comeback Kid as one of 2005’s 100 Bands to Know. Clearly, they’ve already heard the punk quintet’s massive, magnificent sophomore disc Wake the Dead. Masterfully produced by Descendents / ALL drummer Bill Stevenson, this insanely intense set is a relentless onslaught of surging twin guitars, barnburning beats, full-throated vocals and anthemic choruses, all delivered with snare-tight precision and wrapped in furious, fat-free arrangements. One complaint: At 25 minutes, Wake the Dead is over just as it’s getting started. Which makes Comeback Kid one of 2005’s 100 Bands We Know We Want to Hear More From.
STANDOUTS: Every single one of these songs will knock you flat on your butt, but it’s hard not to be partial to the blistering thunder of the title cut, the tense chugging restraint of The Trouble I Love and the tradeoff vocals of last blast Final Goodbye.
