Jackie Putnam and Matt Balsor team up to break up on their surprisingly upbeat new single and video I’m Leavin’ You Now — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
A reflection on the complexities of relationships and the courage it takes to move forward with kindness and respect, Nova Scotia singer-songwriter Putnam’s track — written all the way back in 1993 — reminds us that not all love is meant to last forever. And that’s OK.
“Sometimes you were just not meant to be together; sometimes you were only meant to be together for a period of time; and sometimes you just have to go your own way just like Fleetwood Mac, but remain kind and respectful to each other, and not hateful,” elaborates Putnam. “There are always two sides to the story, and it is OK to let go and move forward.”
This heartfelt duet is brought to life with Balsor, a fellow Nova Scotian artist known for his smooth vocals and deep connection to classic country music. Together, Jackie and Matt deliver a performance that beautifully balances emotion and authenticity, resonating with listeners on a deeply personal level. Also on the track are John Campbelljohn on guitars and dobro, Kim Dunn on keyboard, Scott Ferguson on drums and Rey Legere on fiddle.
Putnam, an award-winning, country-pop sensation, has earned accolades for her powerful vocals and inspiring storytelling while performing extensively throughout Canada and abroad. She released her debut album The Phoenix in 2023. So far it has spawned five charting singles: Hurt, A Church With No People, No One Will Ever Know, I Wanted To Be Free, and the latest entry on that list, I’m Leavin’ You Now.
The Phoenix showcases her remarkable songwriting talent, blending the elements of country and pop. Influenced by country music legends such as Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Anne Murray and Shania Twain, Jackie offers listeners a collection of heartfelt tunes anchored by a pitch-perfect tenor and incomparable musicianship.
Putnam and The Phoenix have earned multiple awards, including International Female Album of the Year from the International Singer Songwriters Association; Best Alternative Song for I Wanted To Be Free from the World Songwriting Awards; and Songwriter Of The Year and Entertainer Of The Year from the North American Country Music Association International.
Jackie and The Phoenix placed eighth in the Worldwide Elite Music Awards competition for Album of the Year. She was also nominated for Album of the Year — among other accolades — at the Josie Music Awards, and was up for Country Recording of the Year at the Music Nova Scotia Awards. She showcased at the 2024 East Coast Music Awards, and enjoyed a Top 10 showing at the World Songwriting Awards for her songs A Church With No People and No One Will Ever Know.
