This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
Looking for a classic Cure album of gothy gloom and depressing dirges? Look elsewhere.
This 1979 debut from Robert Smith and co. has none of the wild mood swings of their later work; instead, it’s a short, sharp shot of youthful energy, brimming with angular grooves, prickly guitars, Smith’s brash vocals — and the twitchiest cover of Foxy Lady ever put to tape. Even better, this 25th-anniversary reissue comes remastered and expanded with a disc of 20 rare and unreleased tracks, including a demo of Boys Don’t Cry and three versions of 10:15 Saturday Night. Sweet. And definitely the real thing.
