Classic Album Review: Evanescence | Anywhere But Home

Goth-metal princess Amy Lee takes the helm on this stopgap live release.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Taped in Paris last year following the sudden departure of founding guitarist and main co-songwriter Ben Moody, this live set seems to exist primarily to buy goth-metal princess Amy Lee some time before recording the followup to the breakthrough disc Fallen — and to show that the singer-pianist is more than capable of leading the band on her own.

ON THE DVD: A hyperactively (if artfully) edited 14-song set that includes one new tune and a cover of Korn’s Thoughtless.

ON THE CD: The audio of the show.
