Classic Christmas Album Review: Vanessa Williams | Silver & Gold

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Call it Vanessa’s Christmas Shlocking. The adult contemporary singer and actress aims for soulful sophistication and jazzy grace — but comes off as bland as blancmange and as fake as an artificial tree — on this slick, overproduced set.

CHESTNUTS ROASTED: Joy to the World; Silent Night; Little Drummer Boy.

YULE LOVE: Well, the gospel-flavoured Rise Up Shepherd and Follow is kinda uplifting; and December Lullaby has a decent groove.

YULE WISH: That there were a couple of more cuts like them.
