Classic Album Review: Various Artists | End Of Days Soundtrack

Axl Rose unveils his first new song in nearly a decade on this Ah-nuld soundtrack.

This came out in 1999 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

This theological thriller marks the second coming of Ah-nuld after Eraser and heart surgery put the kibosh on his action hero career for a few years.

But his downtime is nothing compared to that of the other legend making a comeback here — Guns N’ Roses. Oh My God is the first song in nearly a decade from the band, which is now basically Axl Rose and a rotating cast of hired guns. The track seems to confirm Axl’s reported interest in electronica, kicking off with squirrelly beatboxes and squishy keyboards before exploding into a typically bombastic, overwritten Guns assemblage of duelling guitars, pounding percussion and Rose screaming like an unanesthetized vasectomy patient. Hopefully, the movie rocks as hard. As for the rest of the disc, it’s the usual assortment of album tracks and leftovers from Korn, Limp Bizkit and Eminem. Hopefully, the movie doesn’t have this much filler.
