Classic Album Review: Squareheads | Persona Non Grata

No one is going to accuse the Winnipeg rockers of taking themselves too seriously.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

No one is going to accuse Squareheads of taking themselves too seriously.

Not that they’re a joke. But they know rock ’n’ roll isn’t meant to be nice, neat, clean and perfect. Those four words decidedly do not apply to the quartet’s raggedly glorious CD Persona Non Grata. But here are some words that do apply to these 12 underproduced chunks of old-school riff-punk, bluesabilly and garage-rawk: Choppy. Sloppy. Raw. Brash. Loose. Fuzzy. Pounding. Snotty. Adrenalized. Groovy. Smoking. And mighty freaking cool. Seriously.
