Classic Album Reviews: Muddy Waters | Hard Again / King Bee / I’m Ready Deluxe Editions

These came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got them. Here’s what I said about them back then (with some minor editing):

For his final three studio albums in the late ’70s and early ’80s, elder statesman of the blues Muddy Waters teamed up with Texas guitar hero Johnny Winter — and cut some of the most energized and powerful music of his career, belting out classics like Mannish Boy, Hoochie Coochie Man and I’m A King Bee like he was 16 instead of 60-something. No blues fan’s collection is truly complete without these stellar reissues, which include half a dozen bonus cuts and liner notes from longtime guitarist Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin.
