Vanarin Don’t Know What They’re Doing – Or Do They?

The Italian-Anglo psych-popsters are in the zone on their uplifting new single.

Vanarin zone out in their deceptively upbeat new single I Don’t Know — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

The third preview of the Anglo-Italian band’s upcoming third album, I Don’t Know is a smartly sparkling song where the group’s unfailingly catchy ways are married to originality and complexity. Ranging across diverse musical influences and references from indietronic and R&B to psychedelia and funk, the crossover cut creates an irresistible retro-futurist aura where ’70s synths reach into nu-lounge atmospheres over exotica-flavored rhythms.

The attitude of names like Tame Impala and Junior Boys is embraced and subjected to bold experimentation and skillful technical work. Much of this effort is focused on the irrepressibly groovy rhythm, which fits seamlessly with the singer’s soulful vocals and is accentuated by exotic and psychedelic references. Whether one feels like partying on the dancefloor or lounging in a chill-out zone, the track lives in the moments when time stands still and the mind goes blank. The lyrics immerse you in a place where solitude can help you cope with life, in a dimension of necessary detachment from the everyday:

“Wake up in a desert room
Solo in a state of bloom
Don’t know what I’m doing
Plenty time to spend alone
Pixels crawling up my bones
Don’t know what I’m doin’.”
