Classic Album Review: Craig Taborn | Junk Magic

The pianist's fusion of skronky free jazz and bleepy electronica is ahead of its time.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Some people call pianist Craig Taborn the future of jazz.

I don’t know about that. But when he gene-splices the clattering immediacy of skronky free jazz with the skittering pace and bleepy textures of electronica, there’s no doubt he’s ahead of his time.
