Classic Album Review: T.Rex | Electric Warrior Reissue

Marc Bolan’s 1971 masterpiece enjoys yet another upgraded and expanded reissue.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

THE ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE: 1971.

THE BACK STORY: ‘Hey,’ you say. ‘Wasn’t this album reissued last year with a bunch of extra demos?’ Yep. And now here it is again, with a new host of bonus material designed to showcase British glam-rock god Marc Bolan and one of his crowning achievements in the best possible light.

THE GOODIES: The original album is a masterful mish-mash of cosmic hippie-dippie sensitivity and sweaty boogie-rock sexuality, contained in classic-rock cuts like Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer, Jeepster, Life’s A Gas and the immortal and immoral Bang A Gong (Get It On).

THE BONUS: A gorgeous gate-fold digipak; a half-dozen finished cuts recorded around the same time; 20 minutes of dialog from a promo interview disc for the album; a booklet with extensive liner notes, photos and a mini-poster of Bolan.
