The All Canadian Soundclash aren’t fooling around with their no-nonsense single and video She Won’t Play Your Game — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
The first single from the Ottawa outfit’s debut album Better Late Than Never, the uptempo roots-rocker teems with electricity that surges from start to finish, balancing the energy and intensity of the track with the power and determination of the lyrics.
Inspired by the ’60s and ’70s arthouse films of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, the music video for She Won’t Play Your Game is meant to fuse strong visuals with the complex nature of loving relationships. Shot on the banks of the Ottawa river, an intimate portrait of companionship is captured through the unbreakable bond of the video’s stars: All Canadian Soundclash founder Andrew Michelin and his wife Julie.
Better Late Than Never was meticulously composed alongside award-winning producer and musician Dale Murray, the nephew of Canadian icon Anne Murray. He brings his expertise to the project, having played with Canadian stars like Buck 65, Joel Plaskett and Matt Mays. Rounding out the band is Jordi Comstock, who keeps everything in time with his thunderous drumming.
Michelin’s songwriting lineage can be traced back to his grandfather, one of the last generation of Indigenous trappers who traded with the Hudson’s Bay Co. Trappers would often write songs while isolated in the Canadian wilderness for fun. The connection between Michelin’s artistry and his hidtory is indicative of the authenticity that he employs in his work and life.
