I can’t remember the last time I watched anything on MuchMusic. In all honesty, I don’t even know if I have it on my cable package anymore. And I suspect I’m not alone. For adults, it’s a thing of the past. And for kids, it’s probably even lamer. That might have a little something to do with the reason why the network announced today that they’re going to relaunch in partnership with TikTok, offering new content on a variety of social media platforms.
That kind of makes sense, I guess, since teens — aka the target audience for the kind of pop music MuchMusic would cover — basically live on social media. What will it look like? Who will be on it? How might it work? Will it just become one big Speaker’s Corner on your phone? And will anybody over the age of 25 know or care? That’s a lot of questions. But publicist and social media giant Eric Alper and I only need five minutes to answer some of them in today’s episode of Sonic Reducers. Join us as we speculate about Much’s new makeover, ponder whether kids today even know what a VJ is, and arrive at the sad conclusion we would be better off replacing ourselves with sock puppets. Sonic Reducers. One topic. Two music nerds. Five minutes. Everything you need to know.
