Late-Night TV Music (No Complaints Edition) | April 14, 2021

Greta Van Fleet, Jon Batiste, Pooh Shiesty and Anderson East make a night of it.

Some days the Late-Night TV Music offerings are all about symmetry and synchronicity. Today is not one of those days.

Today, you’ve got a musically mixed bag. Not that I’m complaining. Though I suspect some will be, given that Greta Van Fleet — the bane of humourless classic-rock purists everywhere — showed up on Jimmy Kimmel Live with their latest grandly retro-rocking single Heat Above. Also bringing the heat: Late Show bandleader Jon Batiste, who visited The Late Late Show With James Corden with his funky number Freedom, which sort of splits the diff between Herbie Hancock and Sly Stone IMHO. For something in a slower vein, you could do worse than Anderson East’s southern soul ballad Madelyn, which he brought to Late Night With Seth Myers. And if you’re in the mood for two guys rapping in an alley while rolling their Rs, the magnificently named Pooh Shiesty (insert your own joke here) had you covered with his number Back in Blood on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Have a good Thrrrrrrsday.
