Classic Album Review: Clutch | Pure Rock Fury

The secret recipe behind the Maryland crew's greasy brand of beefy stoner rock.

This came out in 2001 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Take Black Sabbath’s Iron Man and Blue Cheer’s Summertime Blues. Add Frank Zappa’s Apostrophe, Black Oak ArkansasHigh on the Hog, Mountain’s Mississippi Queen, Edgar Winter’s Frankenstein, Johnny Winter’s tattoos, ZZ Top’s first four albums and a pinch of Kool Keith’s Dr. Dooom for flavour. Combine thoroughly. Deep-fry in bacon grease until crispy and then bake until blackened. Serve with pork rinds, double-cheese grits and lashings of possum gravy. Wash down with mason jars full of cheap bourbon and chase with plenty of Dixie beer. Serves as many people as you can fit in a double-wide. Enjoy.
